New Lenox Fire Chief Retires
Steve Engledow will retire from the New Lenox Fire Protection District and conclude a 45-year career in fire.

NEW LENOX, IL - Steve Engledow, chief of the New Lenox Fire Protection District, has announced his retirement. His final day on the job will be Friday, June 23.
“I will always have a passion for the fire service and serving the community," said Engledow, who has served in the role since October 2014. "I will miss the people and friendships I have made along the way. It has been a great career... I am looking forward to retiring, taking it easy, and spending more time with my family and friends.”
Engledow's retirement comes after 45 years of experience in fire. He began as a volunteer with the Frankfort Fire Protection District in 1972 and was hired as a firefighter/paramedic by Country Club Hills five years later. The bulk of his career was spent with the Joliet Fire Department, where he spent 28 years as a firefighter, paramedic, lieutenant, EMS coordinator, EMS chief and deputy chief.

Between Joliet and New Lenox he held roles with departments in East Joliet and Shorewood.
“The NLFPD would like to thank Steve Engledow for stepping into the role of Fire Chief several years ago and helping us get to where we are today,” Skip Minger, NLFPD trustee president, said. “He has been a pleasure to work with and has done an outstanding job. We will miss him and his expertise.”
