New Lenox Fire & Life Safety Educator Honored For 'Exceptional Passion And Knowledge' On Job

NEW LENOX, IL — A valued member of the New Lenox Fire Protection District team was lauded this week for her contributions in leading safety and education efforts within the district, officials said in a release.
Marisa Tomich, the Fire District’s Fire and Life Safety Educator and Public Information Officer received The Lonnie Jackson Public Education Award at this year’s Illinois Fire Inspectors Association and Life Safety Educator conference in East Peoria. PIO Tomich was nominated for this award by her peers and colleagues for this high honor.
"PIO Tomich conducts many programs within our schools, leads the fire district’s CPR program, and is a mentor to many fire and life safety educators in the immediate area," district officials said in a release.

"Her impact within our community and surrounding communities is a testament to her passion to educate the public through school programs and senior citizen injury prevention."
Additionally, PIO Tomich is involved as an instructor for the OSFM (Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal) Chief Fire Officer program.

The Lonnie Jackson Award is granted to any member of the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association who has unselfishly contributed to the greater good of public education in the fire service through program development, delivery, organization, sharing ideas, mentoring others, and the devotion of the mission of public and life safety education. The award is named after the founding Executive Director of the Illinois Fire Inspectors Association.
"PIO Tomich has been and continues to be an asset to the New Lenox Fire District and surrounding areas with her exceptional passion and knowledge of fire and life safety education," officials said.
