New Lenox Holds 'The Spirit Of Giving' Charity Event

Six local charity groups will be at the event, and will be set up to receive donations from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 5.

NEW LENOX, IL — If you're looking for a way to give back this holiday season, you can head out to "The Spirit of Giving," held by Mayor Tim Baldermann, the village trustees and the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce.

The event will be held Thursday, Dec. 5 at village hall, 1 Veterans Parkway. Six local charity groups will be at the event, and will be set up to receive donations from 6 to 9 p.m. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., there will also be hot chocolate and cookies, and a visit from an elf from Santa's workshop.

The village said the six charities at the event will be: Trinity Services, Inc., New Lenox Township Food Bank, The Cottages of New Lenox, New Lenox VFW Post #9545, MorningStar Mission and Silver Cross Hospital.

New Lenox Township Food Bank

The food bank will be accepting any non-perishable food items. They are most in need of canned meat, canned veggies, canned fruit, canned soups, saltine crackers, breakfast bars, Go-Go Squeeze, flour, sugar, baking soda/powder and boxed potatoes.

Silver Cross Hospital

The hospital can only accept recently purchased, unwrapped gifts. Most needed items include: action figures, coloring books, books (English and Spanish), crib toys, plastic infant rattles, gift cards, nail polish and makeup kits, sticker sets and phone chargers.

New Lenox VFW

The VFW is collecting items to send to deployed troops. Most needed items include: new men's black/white socks, beef jerky, bug spray, shampoo, sunscreen, body wash, Q-tips, baby wipes, toothbrushes, razors, playing cards, deodorant and toothpaste.

Trinity Services

Trinity Services will be collecting gently worn or new winter coats, hats and gloves in large sizes for men and women.

MorningStar Mission

MorningStar Mission will also be collecting winter items, including gently worn or new coats, snow pants, boots and other accessories like gloves, mittens, hats, scarves and long underwear.

The Cottages Of New Lenox

You and your family can sit and make a Christmas card or two to be sent to the residents at the Cottages of New Lenox.
