Grades 7 – 12 Submissions March 15 - April 15

TEEN POETRY CONTEST - New Lenox Library
Mar. 15 – April 15
Calling all poets and poets-to-be: Let’s celebrate National Poetry Month together! We will be hosting a month-long poetry contest to highlight your creativity. Poets and poetesses in grades 7-12 are welcome to submit a poem on any topic and in a style of your choosing.
Poems may be submitted starting March 15. Last day to submit is April 15.
Poems should be emailed to mleggero@newlenoxlibrary.org. All submissions should include the poet’s name, grade, email, and phone number.
There will be two categories: Grades 7-9 and Grades 10-12
There will be one winner per category, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Submissions will be judged on vocabulary and structure, idea and theme, and tone and mood.
Don’t worry if this is your first poem. We are not looking for poetic masterpieces, although if you have one, please submit it! We are looking for poems that are readable and appealing.
The poem can be any length, type/form, and topic, but the topic must be appropriate.
The winners will be announced during April and contacted directly. Winners' names will be announced on the library’s Teen page website.
The poems will be published on Facebook and in our quarterly guide. We will also display your poems in our teen scene throughout the summer.
