New Lenox Mayor Announces Run For IL State Representative

The opening for representative of the district comes after Rep. Margo McDermed announced she would not run for reelection in November 2020.

NEW LENOX, IL — Tim Baldermann, who currently serves as mayor of New Lenox, will hold a campaign kick-off event for his run for State Representative of the 37th District. The kick-off will be held Wednesday, Aug. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Thomas E. Hartung Post 1977, 14414 Ford Drive in New Lenox.

On his Facebook page, Baldermann shared an image which stated "Tim Baldermann for Illinois State Representative 37th District." In comments on the page, Baldermann said he was looking forward to the campaign, and if he won the race, he could also remain mayor of New Lenox.

"It has been an honor to serve and get to know the residents of the 37th District. I will continue to call it home and be its staunch advocate, but the time has come for me to take a step back. After serving out my current term that ends in January 2021, I plan to travel, quilt, volunteer and spend more time with my two granddaughters and all my family,” McDermed said in an annoucment about her decision.

Baldermann previously worked for the Chicago Ridge Police Department until 2010. According to his Facebook page, he served as chief of police from 2001 to 2010. After his retirement from law enforcement, Baldermann was hired in 2012 by Union School District 81 in Joliet.

Baldermann was first elected in 2001 as trustee for the village of New Lenox. He has also served on the District 122 board of education. In 2007, he was elected as mayor of New Lenox, and was re-elected in 2011, 2015 and in 2019.

The 37th District includes all or parts of New Lenox, Mokena, Tinley Park, Frankfort, Homer Glen, Joliet, Lockport and Orland Park.
