New Lenox Plans Fourth Of July Parade

While a parade will be held July 4 in New Lenox, the village has canceled the fireworks show this year.

NEW LENOX, IL — There will be no fireworks show in New Lenox this year, but the village will be holding a Fourth of July parade honoring essential workers. The parade will be held at 11 a.m. July 4 and will honor military, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers and essential workers and will follow the same route as the Loyalty Day parade.

"I think it would give a good opportunity for people to say 'thank you,'" Mayor Tim Baldermann said at the June 8 village board meeting.

Essential workers like grocery store workers, construction workers, restaurant workers and pharmacy workers are also encouraged to walk in the parade.

"Unlike military and police and fire, those people did not sign up for what they were exposed to, but they went to work every day," Baldermann said.

The parade will follow Cedar Road down Haven to the Commons, the village said. If you would like to walk in the parade, you can fill out the form here.

The fireworks show normally held July 4 has been canceled this year, since the crowd is too large to accommodate with the current health guidelines.

Baldermann said next year is the 75th anniversary of New Lenox, so he proposed holding a fireworks show to celebrate the anniversary. In 2021, the village would have two fireworks shows, one on the Fourth of July and one for the anniversary, he said.
