New Lenox Residents Could Pay More for Water, Sewer

Increase could mean $15 to $20 more per month for the average single-family household.

New Lenox trustees will vote later this month on increasing water and sewer rates to fund repairs and expansion of two of its sewage treatment plants.

The average single family household would pay $15 to $20 more per month, if the increases are approved.

In the past, the Village’s three water plants have used tap-on fees from new construction to fund maintenance, but a the recession and slower growth in new construction means fewer funds available. Plant 2 on Cedar Road near U.S. 30 is in need of repairs, and Plant 3 will be expanded.

If approved, the sewer fee would increase from $7 to $11.19 per month; the water fee will increase from $5.01 per 1,000 gallons used to $7.87.

The Village Board is expected to vote on the matter on Sept. 28.
