The Price is Wrong: New Lenox Residents Ripped Off When Scammers Tell Them They Won ... A New Car!

New Lenox residents were blinded by allure of a new car and cash, and ended up losing some of their own money, police said.

The cops first learned of the scam about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. An officer was “dispatched to the New Lenox Police Department in reference to a Fraud complaint,” police said. “The complainant advised an unknown person called them and advised that they had won money and a car.”

To get the money and car, the “winners” were told they had to come up with some cash up front, police said, and were “convinced to pay a portion of the winnings before receiving the prize.”

“The complainant wired the money before realizing this was a scam,” police said.
