New Lenox Woman Targeted In Will County Jail Bond Scam: NLPD
The caller told the woman she could bond out a family member for a $500 debit card payment over the phone.
NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox woman was targeted by a scam caller purporting to be from the Will County Sheriff's Office, according to New Lenox police reports.
The woman told police Sept. 30 that a family member had recently been arrested and brought to the Will County jail. She later received a call from a man claiming to be a sergeant with the sheriff's office. The man told her their family member could be bonded out with a $500 payment over the phone via debit card.
The woman provided her card information and later discovered several unauthorized transactions in New York, according to police reports.

The incident is under review for further investigation or case closure.
