New Lenox's $300,000 Lottery Winner Comes Forward

The winner also revealed how she plans to use her $300,000 prize.

NEW LENOX, IL - Illinois lottery officials announced Thursday that one of the Aug. 16 winners of the Lucky Day Lotto midday drawing has come forward. New Lenox resident Katherine Groboski won $300,000 when her Lucky Day Lotto ticket matched all five numbers – 14 - 24 - 28 - 39 - 43 – in last month's drawing. Groboski’s ticket was one of two winning tickets to split a $600,000 jackpot, the lottery said.

Groboski has been playing the Illinois Lottery since its inception in 1974 and plans to use her winnings to purchase a new car, invest and pay bills, according to the lottery.

She told lottery officials that she purchased the ticket on a whim while returning her bowling shoes at Laraway Lanes, 1009 W. Laraway Road, in New Lenox. The retailer will receive a bonus of $3,000, or one percent of the prize of amount, for selling the winning ticket.
