Obituary: Delores Ann Burke

Her warmth and kindness uplifted those around her.

Delores Ann Burke

Delores “Dee” Burke, age 86, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly at home, early Friday morning August 8, 2025. Delores was born, August 21, 1938 to the late Juliann and Joseph Criscione. She attended Joliet Grade Schools and graduated in 1956 from Joliet Township High School.

On September 19, 1959, she married her high-school sweetheart and love of her life, Donald W. Burke at her home parish, St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church in Joliet.

In addition to her beloved husband of nearly 66 years; Delores is also survived by her daughters, Karen M. (Ken) Krasowski and Janice A. Burke; son, Donald P. Burke; grandsons, Matthew (Angharad) Krasowski and Michael Krasowski (fiancée Mackenzie); great-grandchildren, Theo, Owen and Lydia. Also surviving are her sister, Julie Kidwell; brother, Joseph (Diane) Criscione, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly (George) Thomas.

Delores, a devout Catholic and longtime member of the former church of St. Jude, was most recently a member of the Queen of the Apostles Church. She retired after working at the Joliet Herald News and previous to that was employed at the Joliet Arsenal.

Delores’ life devotion was her unconditional love to her family and faith. She enjoyed a special bond with each of her loved ones who will always hold dear her peaceful soul, kind heart, and innocent playfulness. Her face simply lit up when her great grandchildren were present. Her love extended to the dogs in her life which were considered members of the family.

Visitation for Delores Burke will be Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 4-7 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd (at Essington Rd), Joliet. Funeral services will begin at the funeral home Wednesday morning, August 13, 2025, 9:00 a.m. to Queen of Apostles Catholic Church (formerly St. Paul the Apostle Church), 18 N. Woodlawn Avenue, in Joliet where Delores’ Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
