Faye Ann Devers

Fayenette Ann Devers (James), 75, of Joliet, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. Faye Ann James was born on March 23, 1951, the daughter of the late Robert Lee Sr. and Eula Mae Scott (James). She was born in Carbondale, IL and was the 5th sibling out of seven. Not only was she given the name Fayenette but was also known for her infamous nickname of “Dimple.” Faye could brighten up any room with her big smile and beautified dimple shining through. In her early youth years she always held a staple of helping her family and others. Faye accepted Christ on March 27, 1966, at New Zion Baptist Church in Carbondale, Illinois. She started her independence with attending Carbondale public schools as well as graduating from Carbondale Community High school.

While navigating life in Carbondale, Faye met her late husband Gary Devers. After graduation, she ventured to Joliet in 1973 with her first born and began her adult life by tying the knot and sharing two sons within the marriage.

In the essence of establishing a new adventure, Faye joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Joliet in the late 70’s. While being the hard worker she has always been, she began her career with MetLife insurance as a senior sales assistant, where her loyalty remained for 20 plus years. After MetLife, Faye remained working in office administrative roles, retiring from Easter Seals with many committed years under her belt. Faye has always been so loving and supporting to not only friends and family, but to help support organizations such as Black Hook up.

Faye is survived by her children, Tonya James, Sean (Lashae) Devers, and Jason (Ingrid) Devers; her grandchildren, Jzanecia Richardson, Nakari Caruth, Denico Caruth, Sariya Devers, Makayla Devers, Jason Devers, and Eden Devers; her great-grandchildren, Logan Richardson and Maison Caruth. She is also survived by her siblings, Emma Sheppard, Doris James, Robert James, Jr., Lawrence (Mary) James, Marilyn James, and Dennis (Callie) James, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eula James.

Public visitation for Fayenette Ann Devers will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd., Joliet, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. As it was her request, cremation rites will be accorded following services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to Lightways Hospice and Serious Illness Care.
