Past and Present Lead to the Future
I remember the days of old,
I think about all your deeds,
I meditate on the works of your hands.

As I looked out the window this morning, I noticed how gloomy the sky looked, with the grey clouds hiding the sunlight from an otherwise beautiful fall morning. The trees along the creek bed are slowly changing to their beautiful warm colors of red and gold as the small glimmer of water can be seen winding its way down the slight incline running beside the church I work in. The contrast of gloom and beautiful colors is much like life – some parts of our lives are better than others with joys and sorrows intermixed to make us who we are today.
I start to wonder again what the church grounds used to look like before the church was built here. This was a former church camp that thrived during the summer with revivals that lasted a week or two at a time. Thousands of people would come in horse and buggy to camp here and listen to the Word of God and renew their spirit on these very grounds that still are filled with the trees that witnessed many coming to Christ.

Past and present events in our lives can help us see what direction God is telling us to go in our lives for the future. Seeing what we have experienced in the past, we can better understand how to help others along life’s journey in finding God in their own lives. Seeing God working in the lives of those around us now can help inspire us to continue living our own lives in service to God at new levels and in new ways. Meditating on God and His many works in this world is a great way to map out our future – living our life for Christ.
Prayer
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the memories, both good and bad, that have molded us into the persons we are today. Help us to use these past experiences to serve others in a way that leads others to You and Your loving embrace. Amen.
