Planned Providence Bus Depot Met With Concerns From Residents
The Catholic school in New Lenox plans to park as many as 16 buses at Ferro Drive and Gougar Road.

NEW LENOX, IL - A proposal from Providence Catholic High School to use part of its property as a bus depot has been met with resistance from a handful of New Lenox homeowners.
More than a dozen spoke against the school’s proposal for a special use permit at the property on Ferro Drive and Gougar Road at a recent village board meeting, Mayor Tim Baldermann told the Herald-News.
Concerns varied from the noise and additional traffic that will come from the increased bus usage and the effect of a fuel tank on a creek that sits near the proposed depot.

Providence owns the property and is seeking permission to park as many as 16 school buses at the space and install an office trailer and above-ground fueling tank. A school official told the Herald-News that only seven of the buses will leave and return to the parking lot on school days. The others are charter buses that will be used infrequently.
The board is expected to vote on the school’s proposal at its Feb. 27 meeting.
