The Providence Catholic Celtics will face Mount Carmel next week in the high school football playoff semifinals. Providence Catholic beat Wheaton Warrenville South 23-6 in New Lenox Saturday afternoon in the Class 7A quarterfinal game.
The game started with the Celtics scoring 2 points on safety when Luis Vasquez tackled a Wheaton Warrenville South running back in the end zone. In the third quarter, Vasquez scored a touchdown on an interception and 13-yard runback.
“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it, it was so unreal,” Vasquez told the Chicago Tribune after the game. “I didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t a big deal. Well, I guess it was kind of a big deal.”
