Providence Catholic Cheerleading Teams Support Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive

The cheerleaders collected nearly 300 jars of peanut butter from fans.

Although athletic rivals, Providence Catholic High School and Bishop McNamara High School Cheerleading programs joined forces to collect peanut butter and jelly from fans at the October 10 home football matchup in Bishop Kaffer Stadium. A total of 282 jars were collected; peanut butter from Providence Catholic fans and jelly from Bishop McNamara fans. The collection was donated to the local Joliet office of the Northern Illinois Food Bank, which serves Will County food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and programs for youth and seniors in need.

“It was especially rewarding to see the Augustinian value of unity in action and we plan to make this an annual event,” said Laura Duesing, Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach.
