Providence Catholic Wins State Football Championship
Celtics defeated Cary-Grove 31-28 on Saturday.
For the first time in a decade, Providence Catholic brings home a state championship. The Celtics defeated Cary-Grove 31-28 in Saturday’s Class 7A State Championship game in Champaign. This is the 10th football championship in school history. At halftime, the Celtics trailed 14-10. But the offense battled back in the second half on the legs of sophomore running back Richie Warfield, who scored three touchdowns in the second half, as well as one in the first half.
The team was welcomed back to New Lenox late Saturday with a police escort to the high school.
