Providence's Magallones Has New Nickname

Brandon Magallones' no-hitter caps perfect week for top-rated Celtics. Lincoln-Way retains No. 2 spot in weekly power rankings.

1. Providence (26-3): Brandon Magallones has a new nickname. Friends now call him Dr. No-No. Magallones fired a no-hitter in the Celtics’ 5-0 victory over Loyola. The win capped a string of five straight victories for Providence during another big week for the Green Machine. Last week: No. 1.

2. Lincoln-Way North (22-3): Kevin Wilson’s first complete game was a dandy. He fired a two-hitter and struck out five as the Phoenix blanked Bloom 10-0. Alex Eaton had four hits in an 11-7 victory over Benet Academy. Last week: No. 2.

3. Sandburg (17-6): How do you spell relief? How about this, C-H-M-I-E-L-E-W-S-K-I? Eric Chmielewski  tossed seven innings of three-hit ball in relief during the Eagles’ 5-4 10-inning victory over Minooka. Dylan Rakovich drove in the game-winner. Last week: Unranked.

4. Andrew (21-8): Pat Elget went 3-for-4 and had five RBIs in the Thunderbolts’ 13-12 victory over Reavis. Nick DeBenedetti added three hits and scored five runs. Last week: Unranked.

5. Lincoln-Way East (18-8): The highlight of an up-and-down week for the Griffins was a 7-2 victory over district rival Lincoln-Way Central. Jake Busch went 2-for-4 and had one RBI. Bobby Kosola drove in two runs. Last week: No. 3.
