Report Of Suspicious Van Chasing Girl Unfounded: What New Lenox Police Say Really Happened

A scanner report about a man in a van pursuing a young girl sparked concern in New Lenox Tuesday.

NEW LENOX, IL — A report of suspicious activity involving a van chasing a girl in Jackson Branch subdivision Tuesday was determined to be unfounded, New Lenox police said Wednesday.

A scanner report circulating on social media Tuesday sparked concern in the community, with dispatch describing a girl being pursued by a man in a white van. The incident was reported in the 1600 block of Carlton Court in the Jackson Branch subdivision just after 7 a.m., according to the scanner recording.

Police responded to the scene and learned the man and girl were father and daughter, New Lenox Police Chief Micah Nuesse said Wednesday.

"This was an unfounded report," Nuesse told Patch. "Officers did respond to the area and found that a juvenile family member did not want to attend school. The white vehicle was the father’s vehicle, who was attempting to catch up to his child."
