Residents Walk to Support New Lenox Police

The "Blue Ribbon Walk" was held to show New Lenox police that residents back the badge.

New Lenox residents stepped out to show their support for their local police officers Saturday, May 30.

A group of approximately 100, including police, firefighters, emergency services personnel, elected officials and residents, gathered at the New Lenox Commons and circled the area three times. The walk was one of several in the south suburbs aimed at promoting a positive relationship with police, as recent events across the country have vilified officers.

The effort symbolized “walking a mile in their shoes.”

“In a society where crime had increased and many parents would rather be friends to their children than teach them right from wrong, it has become increasingly more difficult to be a police officer,” Mayor Tim Baldermann shared in a post on social media. “The major news markets love to over-expose the terrible actions of a few bad police officers but seldom even mention the incredible service the over-whelming majority of those in law enforcement give everyday.”
