Road Block

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
from where will my help come?
2 My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth. ~ Psalm 121:1-2

I work in a beautiful, wooded setting.  Each season has its own beauty to admire and give me a sense of peace as I drive off of the main highway and wind my way through the trees, past the historical Boy Scout Cabin at the northwest end of the property and then continue south, up a short hill to the church parking lot.  Today, the lovely, swaying branches overhead canopy the drive in many shades of green after the wind and rain we received last evening.  This morning, however, this moment of awe was abruptly changed when, in the middle of the lane, a large branch had fallen sometime during the night, blocking the continuation of my usual morning drive.  It would take two or three brawny men to yank this thing off of the lane to continue on.  My road was blocked!  Backing up and going up the hill on the opposite side of the property (going the wrong way in a one way) was the only way to get up the hill this morning.

Occasionally in life, as we go about our daily routines, we encounter road blocks.  These could be financial issues, health issues, relational issues or even the loss of a loved one.  Where do we turn to continue on?  We must stop continuing on our usual course and lift our needs in prayer to God.  He has created everything and controls everything.  He hears us when we pray and will come to our aid.  Sometimes the answers we want are not what we receive, but He does answer and help us in our time of need.  Next time you encounter a “road block” in your life, stop and lift your concerns to the Lord.  He will help you overcome whatever obstacle is in your way.

Prayer

Dear Lord,
Thank you for always hearing our cries for help and coming to our aid.  Help us to always remember to turn to You first when we encounter “road blocks” in our lives.  We know You will always see us to better things ahead, even if they may not be what we want for an answer at the time.  Amen.
