Drunk Driver Crashed Into Pole On Schoolhouse Road: Police

A 21-year-old Manhattan woman was charged with a DUI after police said she crashed a Ford Focus into a utility pole.

MANHATTAN, IL - Will County Sheriff's police arrested a suspected drunk driver after responding to a car that crashed into a utility pole in the 23000 block of South Schoolhouse Road in unincorporated Manhattan on Sunday night, Jan. 28. After she was treated an an area hospital for possible injuries, the driver of the car, Rebecca Gilbert, was charged with multiple offenses including a DUI.

Police who responded to the scene just before 10 p.m found a Ford Focus about 15 to 20 feet off the roadway in a ditch. The vehicle sustained "heavy front end damage from striking a utility pole," according to a police report. Gilbert, 21, of the 23900 block of Schoolhouse in Manhattan was taken to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox for treatment on possible injuries.

Two alcoholic beverages were found inside her car, according to police. Gilbert was questioned at the hospital before she was charged with illegal lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and DUI.
