SD 122 Board Member Wants Board to Pay Her Legal Bill
Maureen Broderick contends the board should cover legal expenses incurred during a battle with board member Kathy Miller.

A New Lenox School District 122 board member involved in a ballot dispute is now suing for the board to cover her legal expenses.
New Lenox School District 122 Board member Maureen Broderick Sept. 3 filed a lawsuit against the board, after it declined to pay a bill of $5,787 that she incurred in legal action centered around a 2013 fight over a candidate’s right to run for the board, Sun-Times Media reports.
The costs were incurred during a legal battle between Broderick and board member Kathy Miller. In January 2013, a District 122 election board — consisting of Broderick and two other members — voted to remove Kathy Miller from the ballot due clerical errors on her candidacy petitions, Sun-Times Media reports. Miller took that matter to court for appeal, and a judge put her back on the ballot. After she went on to win election in 2013, she sued Broderick, claiming a conflict of interest and civil rights violation, in which she alleged that Broderick personally spearheaded the objection to Miller’s candidacy. A judge later dismissed the case against Broderick.
