Silver Cross Offering ‘Taking Charge of Diabetes’ Event Nov. 10
The event includes a variety of lectures and interactive programs about diet, exercise, carb counting, holiday eating and more!
The Silver Cross Diabetes Center will host Taking Charge of Diabetes Saturday, Nov. 10. The free event will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. Convenient parking and complimentary shuttle service are available.
“Since 1996, we have helped thousands of diabetics and their family members to live with this chronic disease that if not cared for appropriately, could lead to heart disease, blindness and amputation” says Tina Bona, Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Educator with the Silver Cross Diabetes Center. “Holding this event is just one of the ways we are committed to improving the quality of life for our patients and area residents living with diabetes.”
Attendees will be able to participate in a variety of lectures and interactive programs about diet, exercise, carb counting, holiday eating tips and more. Participants will leave with tools to help manage diabetes for life. Speakers include endocrinologist Dr. Veena Nadkarni and certified diabetes educators. Other highlights include "Ask the Pharmacist" and free body mass index (BMI) measurements and blood pressure checks. To register, visit www.silvercross.org.

The Silver Cross Diabetes Center is one of the area’s first American Diabetes Association’s recognized quality comprehensive diabetes management programs. The Diabetes Center, which is located in Pavilion A on the Silver Cross Hospital campus at I-355 and Route 6 in New Lenox, provides a personalized, outpatient program for individuals with diabetes and their family members. Certified Diabetes Educator nurses and dietitians work closely with patients and their physicians to develop a personalized program teaching participants diabetes self-management skills necessary to stay healthy and in control of their blood sugar levels. The program includes everything from medical management to meal planning and physical fitness recommendations.
