Silver Cross Receives 7th Straight A from Leapfrog for Safety
Silver Cross is one of 37 hospitals in IL recognized for its efforts in protecting patients from harm & meeting the highest safety standards

Silver Cross Hospital has once again been recognized for its dedication to patient safety by being awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade by The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. Only 37 out of 107 hospitals in Illinois received an “A,” and Silver Cross is one of them. In fact, this is the seventh straight A Silver Cross has been awarded by Leapfrog for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.
“Patients are looking more and more at a hospital’s safety record when they are choosing where to receive care,” said Ruth Colby, President and CEO of Silver Cross. “Earning seven straight ‘A’s’ shows just how committed Silver Cross is to the safety of our patients, who can be confident that when they come to our hospital, they will receive quality care in a safe environment.”
“This is the only national rating of how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors, infections, and injuries,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day.”
