St. Jude Student Chosen As State Finalist For GeoBee
St. Jude Parish School student Noah Swerhun has been chosen as a finalist for the 2019 National GeoBee State Competition.
NEW LENOX, IL — St. Jude Parish School student Noah Swerhun has been chosen as a finalist for the 2019 National GeoBee State Competition. Swerhun took an online qualifying test, which was submitted to the National Geographic Society.
The top 100 scoring students were then chosen to attend the state GeoBee. Swerhun, who is an eighth grader at St. Jude, will compete at the state competition on March 29 at Heartland Community College in Normal.
State champions then travel to the National Geographic Headquartersto compete in the national championship. The National Championship will be held May 19-22 in Washington, D.C.

According to the event website, the national champion will receive a $25,000 college scholarship, $1,000 in cash, a lifetime membership in National Geographic Society, and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
