As Hurricane Helene has brought widespread, life-threatening storm surges, flooding, and high winds throughout the Southeast, dozens of American Red Cross blood drives have been canceled impacting nearly 1,000 blood and platelet donations.

When people in some of the local social media posts asked where they could find a local blood drive. Veterans at American Legion Thomas Hartung Post 1977 in New Lenox decided to answer the call and contacted the American Red Cross offering our location as a regular blood collection location for the Lincolnway area. Upon recommendation of the Red Cross the blood drive program was scheduled to start in December.

When more drives were cancelled, the American Legion agreed to start earlier with a drive on October 27th, 10:00 AM to 2:00PM. After this emergency collection, the American Legion will host regularly scheduled donation days starting on December 19th, returning every 8 weeks.
