Tractor Supply Building Store In New Lenox

The company wants to have its new store in New Lenox open next spring.

NEW LENOX, IL — New Lenox remains a community on the move. Last week, the village acquired the now-razed Papa Joe's restaurant parcel on Route 30 in hopes of spurring redevelopment that blends in well with the nearby Village Commons area. Village officials also learned that construction will begin in the next couple weeks for a Tractor Supply store. The new business will be near the intersection of Laraway and Schoolhouse Roads, just north of the McDonald's.

"Their goal is to start construction next month and be open in March," Mayor Tim Baldermann told Patch. "And there's no reason that should not happen."

Baldermann said the great thing about Tractor Supply is that the business is certain to bring shoppers into New Lenox from other surrounding communities including Mokena, Elwood and Manhattan, among other places.

"That's an exciting project," Baldermann remarked. "From what I hear, the nearest one is in St. John, Indiana. They are anticipating customers from within a 50-mile radius of their store."

The company's website proclaims that Tractor Supply "is an American retail chain of stores that offers products for home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden maintenance, and livestock, equine and pet care."

The architectural renderings reviewed by the village were impressive, the mayor said.

"It will be a different type of store than you see around here," Baldermann said. "It should be a real good provider of sales tax for our community."
