Traffic Issues Resolved, Church Gets the Go-Ahead for Satellite Location

Parkview Christian Church hopes to break ground in the spring.

After revisions to traffic plans, Parkview Christian Church this week received the Village Board’s approval for a satellite location at Laraway and Schoolhouse roads.

A few residents who live in Sky Harbor subdivision, located across Schoolhouse Road to the east, previously voiced concerns about traffic, since the neighborhood has only one entrance at High View Drive. Trustees addressed their traffic concerns by establishing that the Village would dictate if police officers are needed for traffic control, with the church paying for the help, Daily Southtown reports.

The board also voted to amend the annexation agreement for Deer Point South, and rezone the church site. As part of the plan, area along the northern border of Laraway Road will remain commercially zoned; the remainder of the property will be zoned for single-family residential.

In the church development’s early stages, Sky View Drive will be the only access road into the property. An additional access road will be built from Laraway Road after the development is finalized.

Parkview Christian Church sees about 7,000 people every weekend, mostly at the Orland location, located on Wolf Road and 183rd Street. That auditorium seats about 2,000, according to Pastor Tim Harlow of Mokena. The Lockport campus, located at 1463 S. Farrell Road, seats about 250, he said. The New Lenox location will sit on an 8-acre campus and accommodate 615.
