Triple Play Concert Series Dates Set: New Lenox Mayor

Patch interviewed Mayor Tim Baldermann about New Lenox's super-popular outdoor concert series.

NEW LENOX, IL - On Friday morning, New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann revealed the dates for this summer's highly anticipated 10th annual Triple Play Concert Series. New Lenox will host the popular outdoor concert series on June 30, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25, Balderman told New Lenox Patch. Oscar and Grammy-winning rock musician Melissa Etheridge will headline the June 30 performance, the mayor confirmed. Etheridge is best known for her hits "I'm the Only One" and "Come to My Window."

Tickets for the New Lenox Triple Play Concert Series will go on sale at Village Hall from 7 a.m. until noon on May 19, the mayor said. More information will be revealed during the next week when New Lenox finalizes the headliners for the shows on Aug. 11 and Aug. 25. "We're going to have some great entertainment," Baldermann vowed. Besides Melissa Etheridge, Dennis Quaid & the Sharks will also be playing on the stage that night.

"He's the actor but he's got an outstanding band," the mayor said.

"We are just waiting on the contracts," he said. "The intent of this is to bring in quality entertainment for our community while keeping the price affordable.

"This is our tenth year now. In the years since we started, the music situation has changed. A lot of classic rock bands are now going out in packages of two or three and playing in larger venues. That affects our ability to grab some of those classic rock shows. It's not as easy as it used to be."

Last April 10, Patch reported Richard Marx would kickoff the lineup at The Commons on June 17 with an opening by The Tubes. BoDeans would be the headline performance on July 22 with an opening by The Smithereens. Collective Soul would play on Aug. 5 and the Barenaked Ladies would conclude the 4-concert series on Sept. 2.

In 2017, Triple Play concert tickets cost $75 each.

In 2016, New Lenox hosted two Triple Play Concert series. The first series featured Daughtry, Huey Lewis & The News, and The Wallflowers. The Triple Play Extra series featured Buddy Guy, Michael McDonald and Chicago.
