Two Lincoln-Way West Seniors Awarded National Merit Scholarships
Emma Huelsmann and Madeline McDermott both received National Merit University of Kentucky scholarships.
NEW LENOX, IL —Two seniors from Lincoln-Way West High School have been named College-Sponsored National Merit Scholarship winners. Emma Huelsmann, who will be studying medicine, and Madeline McDermott, who will be studying chemical engineering both received National Merit University of Kentucky scholarships.
The latest batch of college-sponsored scholarship winners are part of a group of 7,600 high school seniors who will receive National Merit scholarships for college undergraduate study worth over $30 million, a release states.
According to a release, officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.

National Merit said additional recipients of college-sponsored scholarships will be announced July 13.
