VIDEO: Providence Poms Routine Gets 3rd at State

Clown face paint and a ringleader's uniform aren't a part of Providence Catholic High School's dress code on a regular day, but the poms team owned it Monday afternoon while celebrating a third-place finish in state competition.

"One of the most interesting things about their kick routine is the creativity," Principal Don Sebestyen said during a pep rally held for the team on Monday. "And you’ll see that, of course, in their costumes."

The dance moves were equally creative for the team, which performed the kick routine it placed with in the Team Dance Illinois state competition. In all four* of its previous competitions this season, the poms team won a first-place trophy. At its home competition, the team also accomplished the Artistic Excellence Award.

"I cannot tell you how proud I am," coach Tina Rauch said. "You can see that these 21 girls sitting in front of you today are an exceptional group of hardworking, dedicated and talented young ladies. They were determined to stand above all the rest and beat out our biggest competitors."

During the pep rally, the pom members were presented with medals and also showed off the trophy they took home. Captains Emily Turner and Kara Golebiowski thanked their parents, friends, administration and coaches for the support.

"(Sunday) was our best performance of the entire year," Turner said. "We have grown so much over the past year."
