Man in Wheelchair Hit by Car Friday is in Critical Condition

Manhattan school board member Tim Doyle is in the ICU at Silver Cross Hospital.

A Manhattan school board member, Tim Doyle, was in critical condition Saturday in the intensive care unit at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox after being struck by a car Friday while in his motorized wheelchair, reports Erin Gallagher for Tribune Media. Doyle was hit in the center of Manhattan, in the 100 block of North Avenue in Manhattan, by a Pontiac Grand Am. Doyle is a quadriplegic from a previous injury.

“It appeared the driver’s and the pedestrian’s views were both obstructed by a parked vehicle,” Police Chief Joseph Wazny said. “There were no citations issued and no indication of impairment.”

He’s the brother-in-law of New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann and the brother of Manhattan Mayor Jamie Doyle. He serves on the Manhattan School District 114 Board of Education.
