Where Do You Do Your Grocery Shopping?
Aldi is set to come here, and a third Jewel/Osco is a possibility for the future. But what about Trader Joe's?

After Walmart opened in October with a full grocery selection and Aldi recently had plans approved to come to New Lenox, Mayor Tim Baldermann said the same thing.
"The nice thing is we’ve got a lot of grocery choices for people here. It wasn’t like that for years; we just had the one Jewel."
Recently, Baldermann said a third Jewel store is a possibility for New Lenox, though it's something that's a ways off. The store is looking into the Route 6 corridor near the Silver Cross Hospital campus.

And while it's true there are more options—via more locations, more brands, more price differences—is there more variety? Residents I talked to outside the library and readers who have commented online have voiced that Trader Joe's or Whole Foods would be a welcomed addition to the village.
"I wrote to both of them a couple years ago to tell them they would have a great opportunty in New Lenox," reader Grace Anders commented in a previous article. "I guess it didn't do much good. But I am also happy about Aldi's. Each grocery store has diffeent features."

Baldermann said the village would love one of those stores to come here, and Trader Joe's was actually looking to a couple years ago.
"They didn't think the market would bear having one here and the one in Orland," he said. "But we're fortunate to get a lot of phone calls coming to us about businesses coming here."
