Ranch Frostie, New Lenox (3 of 5 stars)
The good: Ranch Frostie is a local favorite with a nostalgic summer-night atmosphere. I got the chocolate chip shake, which had a pretty nice taste thanks to some larger chunks of chocolate.

The bad: However, those chunks of chocolate made the shake a bit of a task to drink. I turned to a spoon, but then the chocolate flavor wasn't as concentrated as it was through a straw. Overall, I prefer a creamier shake and the consistency here was more memorable than the taste.
Kernel Sweetooth, Frankfort (4 of 5 stars)
The good: The great thing about milkshakes at Kernel Sweetooth is that you can have one made from any of their hard-packed ice cream flavors. That being said, I ordered a vanilla shake, which was creamy, thick and topped with whipped cream. Very tasty.

The bad: Did I mention it was thick? It took me a few strained sips before I actually got any shake.

Oberweis Dairy, Mokena (3.5 of 5 stars)
The good: Handmade, tasty and served with whipped cream and one of those rolled wafer cookies (not sure what they're called, but the Pepperidge Farm version of them is called the Piroutte), this is one fancy milkshake.
The bad: A bit on the milky side, but that's to be expected from a dairy. The biggest problem was the $4.99 price tag for the regular. A $5 milkshake didn't fly in Pulp Fiction and it doesn't fly here.
