Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are not only some of the best players in the league, they also are the highest paid in the league. Ronaldo is richer, earning 210 million euros including endorsements, with Messi earning 10 million euros less. Neither athlete could be called greedy, though, as both are involved in multiple charity efforts.

Messi has been highly involved with UNICEF, a United Nations incentive, since the beginning of his career in 2004. In 2010, he became an ambassador for the fund. Messi has also started his own foundation, which funds medical research as well as provides opportunities for children to get involved with sports. In particular, Messi has focused his philanthropic efforts on causes benefiting children, which is no surprise considering he’s a father of two boys.

Ronaldo has not concentrated his efforts on one or two charities, instead donating to various groups. These causes involve disaster relief, health care, education, preventing hunger, and conservation. He also serves as an ambassador for both Save the Children and the Mangrove Care Forum.

Both players often participate in charity matches, as well, which help raise funds for a variety of causes. While neither have publicly announced just how much of their salary is used for philanthropic purposes, both are clearly doing good things with their money and influence.
