Will County Board Member's Son Again Charged With Battery

Three years ago, Alex Wilhelmi allegedly whipped a man with a belt. The case was dismissed.

The son of a Will County Board member was charged with battery less than three years after a special prosecutor dismissed a case in which he allegedly whipped a man with a belt.

Alex Wilhelmi, 23, caught his current case Sunday night during an alleged altercation with his former girlfriend and her new man.

The 21-year-old woman and her boyfriend were reportedly in a car parked across the street from Wilhelmi’s Richmond Street home. Wilhelmi allegedly reached into the car in an attempt to get at the boyfriend. He failed to make contact with his old girl’s new lover, police said, but did manage to hit her in the forehead.

In July 2012, Wilhelmi and two of his friends were arrested in connection with an alleged road rage incident on the near west side. During the altercation, Wilhelmi allegedly whipped 22-year-old Trey Travis with a belt. Wilhelmi was charged with mob action and battery.

Four months later, Dave Neal of the Special Prosecution Unit of the State’s Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor’s office dismissed the case against Wilhelmi. Four months after that, Travis sued Wilhelmi and his friends, Manuel Borrego, 26, and Daniel Duffy, 25.

Travis claimed he was the victim of a hate crime. In his lawsuit, he alleged that Wilhelmi, Borrego and Duffy told him “they were going to ‘beat (his) black ass.’”

Travis was awarded a $2,500 default judgment.
