Wrestling: L-W West Wins Regional Championship

Josh Ruettiger captured the 152-pound title and led Lincoln-Way West to the Class 2A regional championship on their own floor Saturday in New Lenox.

Larry Cozzo (106), Kyle Rodriquez (126), Will Hubbard (145), Tommy Demma (170) and Colin Mulroe (190) added second-place finishes for Lincoln-Way West in the Class 2A wrestling regional on the Warriors home floor Saturday in New Lenox.

Lincoln-Way West parlayed the 1-2 punch into a team title, too.

The Warriors scored 185.5 points to top the 10-team field. Bremen placed second with 120, followed by Oak Forest 115, Hllcrest 112 and Tinley Park 111.

Ruettiger, a junior, pushed his record to 35-8 with a 17-2 victory over Bremen's Ricky Olson in the 152-pound title matchup. Ruettiger's father, Mark, is an assistant coach with the Warriors and a former four-time state champion.

Lincoln-Way West also picked up top-four finishes from Lance Perly (113, third), Matt Ryan (120, third), Luke Keefe (138, third), Jake Bohne (160, third) and Erwin Ferreira (220, fourth).
