Niles Takes Another Bite at Term Limits

If you enjoy voting on term limit questions, then the Niles Village Board is definitely working for you.

After a decisive defeat on the question to increase term limits from twelve years to twenty last March, the Niles Board held a Special Meeting on August 14th to try again.

The new referendum question will appear on November ballots and will ask Niles voters to establish a sixteen year term limit for Trustees.

Current Niles terms are limited to eight years for Mayor and twelve years for Trustees.

The November referendum question also wipes out all prior service to allow currently limited Trustees to get a fresh start.

Notably absent from this referendum question is a change to the mayoral term limit. The current Mayor would be precluded from running again unless a mayoral term limit referendum is proposed before 2029.
