Anti Hate Vigil Held in Skokie

A multi faith vigil was held at the Beth Israel Temple at 3601 W. Dempster St. in Skokie Monday night in response to the Pittsburgh area Synagogue shooting that left 11 dead this past weekend.

There were several hundred in attendance at the rally against hate, where rabbis from the temple gave speeches against intolerance and hate. References were made to the white supremacist movement and the violence in Pittsburgh as well as the incident in Charlottesville, VA last year.

Several media outlets were on-site, including Channels 2, 5, 7, 9 and 32. Dane Placko, Phil Meineke and other local reporters were on the scene covering the vigil and rally.

People from all walks of life and religions came togehter to hear speeches of inclusion and perseverance in the wake of the deadly Pittsburgh area shooting Saturday.

Songs and hymms were sung, including traditional Jewish hymms and God Bless America.

Some in the crowd held candles and many held hands and hugged each other.

There was a police presence for crowd and traffic control, as probably for security reasons at events such as this.
