Arrests, Citations Issued At Morton Grove Days: MGPD Crime Reports

Morton Grove Police Blotter: July 5 - July 11

MORTON GROVE, IL — The following is a record of incidents reported to the Morton Grove Police Department and a list of those arrested. Readers are reminded an arrest is not an indicator of guilt. Criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations and all persons arrested are innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

DISORDERLY CONDUCT (FAKE GUN)

A juvenile was issued a Morton Grove ordinance citation for disorderly conduct for waving around an airsoft realistic looking pistol on June 30 in the 5800 block of Crain Street.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE (DOG SCAM)

A Morton Grove resident told police he had found a dog he wanted on a website. He said he contacted the purported breeder and wired money for the dog and later sent a second money order to pay for the dog's shipping. The resident never received any dog, realized it was a scam and reported it to police on June 30.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE (TO TIRES)

A resident in the 8800 block of Mango Avenue told police on June 30 his tires had been slashed multiple times.

BATTERY

Two juveniles were shoving each other at the Morton Grove Days Fest in Harrer Park on July 1 when one slapped the other in the face, who in turn punched the slapper in the nose. The puncher was issued a local ordinance citation, both children were released to their guardians and kicked out of the event.

CRIMINAL TRESPASSING

At the Morton Grove Fest on July 3, a juvenile was issued Morton Grove local ordinance citations for criminal trespassing and possession of tobacco after police said the previous day he was not allowed back on the property during the fest.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 8900 block of Marion Avenue told police when he returned home on July 4 he found his door had been left open and rooms had been rummaged through. The resident said jewelry had been taken.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident in the 6900 block of Dempster Street told police two phone accounts had been opened using her information without her knowledge.

ARRESTS

DUI

Stefan Olkowski, 31, of the 2700 block of Budd Street in River Grove, was arrested July 2 at the intersection of Dempster Street and Ozark Street. He was pulled over for a traffic violation and found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, police said. His court date was set for July 25.

BATTERY

Matthew K. Nielson, 22, of the 6900 block of Jonquil Terrace in Niles, was arrested July 4 near the Morton Grove Days Fest. Police said he grabbed a woman by the shirt and threw her to the ground. He was also charged with obstructing and resisting arrest for running from officers, according to police. His court date was set for Aug. 15.

BATTERY/TRESPASSING

Daniel Parris, 24, of the 500 block of Milan Lane in Hoffman Estates, was arrested July 4 in the 6200 block of Lake. Police said he punched a person in the face and entered where he was not allowed. His court date was set for Aug. 11.

BATTERY

Gary Klumak, 53, of the 6300 block of N. Merrimac Avenue in Chicago, was arrested and charged with battery on July 4 in the 8500 block of Menard Avenue. Police said he kicked, punched and hit a person with a chair. His court date was set for Aug. 11.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION/RESISTING

Emmanuel L. Mays, 18, of the 7600 block of Waukegan Road in Niles, was arrested July 7 and charged with violating an order of protection and resisting arrest. Police said he was in the presence of the protected person and ran from officers when they tried to arrest him.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A 19-year-old Morton Grove woman was issued a local ordinance citation on July 4 for disorderly conduct after police said she refused verbal commands from officers when "involved in an incident" at the intersection of Dempster Street and Fernald Avenue.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A 53-year-old Des Plaines man was issued a local ordinance citation on July 4 at Morton Grove Days Fest for "inappropriately touching a female while intoxicated."
