Chamber Music Performed Jan. 17 at St. John Brebeuf

Chamber music program continues St. John Brebeuf concert series

The Musica Lumina 2015-16 concert series will continue Sunday, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church in Niles. Performed by Quintet Attacca, Winter Winds—A Romantic Soundscape will showcase the quintet’s innovative programming that reflects both the Classical and Romantic eras. A free-will offering will be taken, but there is no admission charge.

Sponsored by Relevant Radio and Bugle Newspapers, January 17 concert is the fourth concert in the eight concert 2015-16 series organized by SJB Music Director Marek Rachelski. One of Chicago’s most dynamic chamber music ensembles, Quintet Attacca will perform music by John Steinmetz, Francis Poulenc and Endre Szervánszky.

Founded in 1999, Quintet Attacca is the Grand Prize Winner and Wind Division Gold Medal Winner of the 2002 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The quintet spent 2006-2009 as the Chicago Chamber Musicians’ Professional Development Program Ensemble and continues as CCM’s Outreach and Education Ensemble. As Ensemble-in-Residence at the Music Institute of Chicago, Quintet Attacca offers performances, family programming, chamber music coaching and individual lessons.

Four additional concerts of the 2015-16 season will include the Avanti Guitar Trio on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m.; Mozart: Mass in C Minor, K. 427, on Sunday, March 20, at 3 p.m.; The Singing Boys of Rockford on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m. and Music from the Slavic World on Sunday, May 15, at 3 p.m.

The March 20 concert is the last of three commemorative concerts given this season in honor of the legacy of the Rev. Stanley Rudcki, the former chair of the Niles College of Department of Fine Arts, who founded the Niles Concert Choir and Niles Symphony Orchestra in the 1960s.
