Child Finds Crack Pipe; Pickpocket Wanted For Carjacking: Blotter

Sexual assault, cocaine and ammo found after DUI crashes and $5,500 "Magic" cards stolen in the Niles PD blotter for April 27 to May 31.

NILES, IL — The following information comes from the Niles Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, criminal charges — representing merely accusations by the state — are often dropped or reduced and all persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

ARMED ROBBERY
At 12:20 a.m. on April 26, a man exiting White Eagle Banquets at 6845 N. Milwaukee Ave. called 911 to report two two unidentified men armed with a gun walked up and demanded his belongings. He handed over his wallet and the men fled on foot.

LOCKER/CAR BURGLARY
At 5:01 p.m. on April 26, police were told someone broke into a locker at the Leaning Tower YMCA, 6300 W. Touhy Ave., and stole a car key. The thief then used the key to open up the victim's parked car and steal an iPad and cash.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a Nissan from the 7600 block of Grennan Place during the overnight hours of May 3-4.

FELONY 'MAGIC' THEFT
Police were told that during an afterhours card game at Pastimes, 8205 W. Golf Rd., someone stole two Magic: The Gathering playing cards worth an estimated $5,500.

STOLEN CAR
On May 16, a rental car company in the 9400 block of Greenwood Avenue called to report a silver 2017 Jeep Compass with Ohio plates rented from April 12 to 14 had never been returned.

LOCKER/CREDIT CARD THEFT
Between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. on May 15, someone broke into a locker at the Leaning Tower YMCA, 6300 W. Touhy Ave. and stole about $50 and two credit cards. Shortly after 5 p.m., someone made a $330.74 charge to Officemax. At 5:20 p.m. someone made a $274.34 charge at Petsmart, before also using the card at a sporting goods store.

CHILD FINDS CRACK PIPE
A man at the X-Sport Fitness in the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue told police he was at the park with his daughter on the playground in the daycare area when he noticed she was holdign a suspicious item in her hand. It was later identified as a crack pipe with some white reside, as well as a piece of copper scrubbing pad.

BATTERY
A patient at Lutheran General Hospital reported to police that between 10 and 11 p.m. on May 29 he had been in the parking lot of the Home Depot in the 8600 block of West Dempster Street when two people walked up and demanded his flat screen monitors. He said he was hit in the back and the head and knocked out, and both suspects punched and kicked him while he was on the ground, causing multiple injuries.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Jennifer S. Dorband, 49, of the 7200 block of West Crain Street in Niles, was arrested at 9 p.m. on April 26 and charged with driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08, and for driving with a suspended license after being pulled over for speeding in the block of her residence. She was also ticketed for speeding and a small amount of suspected cannabis.

Hassamo H. Shamoun, 45, of the 8600 block of Gregory Lane in Des Plaines, was arrested at 4:45 p.m. on April 26 in the Golf Mill Center parking lot and charged with three counts of violation of an order of protection.

James W. Huff, 30, of the 200 block of West 30 Par Lane in Itasca, turned himself in to face charges of leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked license in connection with an investigation into a traffic crash in the 5800 block of West Touhy Avenue at 4 p.m. on April 27. He was also ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Hector Montesinos-Velazquez, 29, of the 9000 block of North Cumberland Avenue in Niles, was arrested at 6:15 a.m. on April 28 and charged with driving under the influence following an investigation into a traffic crash that determined one of the drivers involved was intoxicated.

Trevor O. Porter Jr., 22, of the 1700 block of Burning Bush Lane in Mount Prospect, appeared in court May 2 on a charge of criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual abuse on April 23 at his house. He allegedly forced himself on a person who was under the influence of narcotics.

Joseph Von Albade Jr., 60, of the 8200 block of North Waukegan Avenue in Niles, was arrested at 4:50 a.m. on May 1 and charged with driving under the influence and possession of ammunition without a firearm owners identification card. He allegedly crashed into a home in the 8300 block of Caldwell Avenue with open alcoholic containers and a box of bullets in the car. Von Albade was also cited for not having insurance and driving on the sidewalk.

Oscar B. Talamayan, Jr., 46, of the 8200 block of West Elizabeth Avenue in Niles, turned himself in on May 1 on a charge of domestic battery in connection with an incident that reportedly occured on March 7 at his home.

Julie M. Ferraresi, 36, of the 7400 block of North Osceola Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 8:32 p.m. on May 4 and charged with driving under the influence after police were called to a report of a private property traffic crash. She was also issued a citation for not having insurance.

Haralambos A. Balaskas, 42, of the 8800 block of West Golf Road in Niles, turned himself in at the police station at 5:05 p.m. on May 5 to face a charge of retail theft from the Target at Golf Mill Shopping Center that occurred at 3:02 p.m. on April 24.

Efren Mendez-Ortega, 36, of the 600 block of 8th Avenue in Maywood, was arrested around 9 p.m. on May 5 and charged with driving under the influence and with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 following an investigation into a traffic crash in the 9600 block of Greenwood Avenue. He was also cited for unsafe brakes, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and disregarding a traffic control device.

Eduardo Rodriguez-Neri, 43, of the 1200 block of Forums Court in Wheeling, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. on May 6 and charged with driving under the influence, with a blood alcohol concentration above 0.08 and without a valid license after he was found parked in a no parking area in the 8500 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Felipe Lopez-Melendez, 48, of the 6500 block of North Francisco Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 4:19 a.m. on May 6 in the 8300 block of North Caldwell Avenue and charged with felony driving under the influence after he was pulled over for reportedly driving into oncoming traffic without headlights. He was also reportedly driving without a valid license and cited for not having insurance or wearing a seatbelt.

Oscar S. Vides, 43, of the 8900 block of North Merill Avenue was arrested on a Niles PD arrest warrant at 11:20 p.m. on May 7 after police were called to the 8500 block of North Oleander Avenue for report of an unwanted person.

Samantha A. Muno, 20, of the 5300 block of North Linder Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 7:45 a.m. on May 12 and charged with driving under the influence after police were called to the parking lot of a restaurant in teh 7600 block of Milwaukee Avenue for a car that had crashed into a light pole. She was also cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor and possession of cannabis.

Carlos Gonzalez, 19, of the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 11:12 p.m. on May 12 and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, possession of more than 30 grams of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in the 9000 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was pulled over for driving without a working license plate light and police learned he had marijuana "individually bagged for resale and a large amount of cash."

Adriana Garcia-Aparicio, 20, of the 600 block of Piper Lane in Prospect Heights, was arrested at 12:38 a.m. on May 18 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, with a blood alcohol concentration of 0.o8 of more, failure to report an accident to police, possession of a controlled substance after she reportedly crashed into a construction barricade. Police pulled her over in the 7700 block of Milwaukee Avenue and found cocaine and cannabis in the car. She was also cited for damage to village property, possession of cannabis.

Mohammad Awais Ghouri, 25, of the 8800 block of Golf Road in Niles, was arrested at 11:04 p.m. on May 19 and charged with felony possession of cannabis after police noticed him in a parked car near his home. Officers smelled the strong odor of cannabis emanating from his car and he admitted having some cannabis. Police reported finding 206.2 grams of cannabis and about 7.9 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms.

Fernando Cornelio-Castro, 44, of the 4200 block of North Spaulding Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 2:23 a.m. on May 20 and charged with felony driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 8400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Police reported they were told a car was driving all over the road, pulled Castro over and smelled alcohol on him.

Jose A. Munoz, 29, of the 600 block of Callan Avenue in Evanston, was arrested at 1:35 a.m. on May 21 and charged with two counts of felony driving under the influence of alcohol – the third or subsequent time and with a revoked or suspended license – as well as misdemeanor DUI and driving without a valid license after he was pulled over in the 8000 block of North Milwaukee for driving 55 mph in a 35 mph zone. Police found he was intoxicated, had two prior DUIs and had two bottles of Corona in plain view.

Joshua M. Anderson, 21, of the 0-100 block of South Chester Avenue in Park Ridge, was arrested at 12:12 a.m. on May 23 at the Wendy's in the 7200 block of North Harlem Avenue after police were called for a report that he was going through an employee's purse before running out the back door when police arrived. While he was detained on the corner of Harlem and Touhy avenues, police learned he also had an active arrest warrant for carjacking. He now faces additional charges of theft and resisting arrest.

Daniel Aguilar, 35, of the 4500 block of North Albany Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 9:45 a.m. on May 22 on charged with possession of a controlled substance and retail theft. He was processed at the Skokie Courthouse.

Sean M. Brink, 31, of the 600 block of 3rd Avenue in Marseilles, was taken into custody at the Kane County Jail on a Niles PD warrant for retail theft.

Moises Flores, 23, of the 6500 block of North Artesian Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 7:48 p.m. on May 25 and charged with retail theft of $363.74 worth of items from the Walmart in the 5600 block of West Touhy Avenue.

Bisner E. Voynov, 35, of the 8400 block of West Carol Street in Niles, was arrested at 1:10 a.m. on May 26 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after police were called to a report that he was drunk and beating up a woman. He was also cited for the cost of emergency services.

Mariusz Pawlowski, 42, of the 5700 block of Carol Avenue in Morton Grove, was arrested at 2:43 a.m. on May 26 and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery on the sidewalk near the intersection of Milwaukee Avenue and Ballard Road. He reportedly was drunk and struck and kicked a woman to the ground. Police were told a witness tried to intervene to stop further injuries to the victim. Pawlowski was also cited for public intoxication and cost of emergency services.

Delilah Molina, 57, of the 4000 block of George Street in Chicago, was arrested at 10:03 p.m. on May 26 on a DuPage County warrant following a traffic stop for disobeying a left turn signal in the 9400 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Carol A. Diamond, 52, of the 8100 block of North Octavia Avenue in Niles, was arrested at 12:17 a.m. on May 27 and charged with domestic battery at her home after she allegedly got into a fight with a man and caused multiple injuries. She was also cited for the cost of emergency services.

Carlos F. Hernandez, 52, of the 1700 block of North Pulaski Road in Chicago, was arrested at 1:09 a.m. on May 27 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and with a suspended license following a traffic stop for speeding 54 in a 35 mph zone in the 8300 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Jose J. Garcia, 25, of the 600 block of Slade Avenue in Elgin, was arrested at 11:35 p.m. on May 27 at the Costco in the 7300 block of Melvina Avenue and charged with domestic battery after police determined he forcefully grabbed a woman's shoulder.

Ferdrick D. Ryals, 41, of the 1400 block of South Ashland Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 2:32 p.m. on May 28 at the Golf Mill Center Target and charged with retail theft after he was seen swapping labels to pay about $2 for more than $115 worth of items.
