D-67 May Ask For Tax Hike On February Ballot

Golf School District 67 plans to hold a meeting Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 to discuss when and how to again ask voters for funding, after voters turned down one of its two referendum requests in the Nov. 6 election. 

The district, which educates students from Morton Grove and Niles, also has a full board meeting scheduled for Dec. 6. 

In the election last March, the school district asked voters to approve two referendum questions: a $7.9 million construction bond referendum that would have made improvements and repairs to the district's two school buildings, and a $1.14 million tax rate increase that would have provided operating funds, which would pay for such things as teacher salaries and programs.

Voters turned down both questions in March, but in the September election, they approved the bond referendum and defeated the tax rate increase.

The district said after the election that it would place the tax rate increase question on the ballot again.

At Tuesday's finance committee meeting, the committee will discuss putting the question on the Feb. 26 primary ballot, according to the Morton Grove Champion. 

If the district does not put it on the February ballot, it could also place it on the April 9, 2013 election ballot.
