D’Amico Bill Ensuring Vehicle Registration Reminders Continue Becomes Law
Everyone needs a reminder to renew their vehicle registration

CHICAGO – A bill pushed by state Rep. John D’Amico, D-Chicago, became law on that will allow residents to continue to receive vehicle registration reminders in the mail and avoid costly late fees by allowing Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White to allow select businesses to advertise on the notices.
“Everyone needs a reminder to renew their vehicle registration,” D’Amico said. “I want to make sure that the mail reminders continue so that residents don’t get hit with those costly tickets.”
D’Amico’s House Bill 394 would allow select-organizations to advertise on the vehicle registration reminders. This advertising revenue would make the program cost nothing for taxpayers as a result. In 2015, the Secretary of State’s Office stopped mailing the reminders. D’Amico wanted to make sure that families could continue to receive the reminders to renew their registration, but without having taxpayers foot the bill. Under the legislation, potential advertisers will have to participate in a strict vetting process before they are allowed to advertise.

“This is a great program, because we are providing a great government service at no cost to taxpayers that will additionally save taxpayers money,” D’Amico said. “Government too often does not implement great ideas. I will continue to search for the best ideas to make our government cost less and work better for residents.”
