Body Found Frozen In Snow In Morton Grove Was Fatally Shot

A 30-year-old Chicago man died from a gunshot wound before he was found in a "severely frozen state" between two homes Sunday, police said.

MORTON GROVE, IL — Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found in the snow Sunday in a Morton Grove residential street as a homicide.

Anthony Del Barrio, 30, of Chicago, was discovered in around 9:30 a.m. between two houses in the 8800 block of North Oleander Avenue by a resident who had come outside to shovel, according to Cmdr. Paul Yaras.

Due to his "severely frozen state," the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office was unable to conduct an autopsy until Tuesday morning, which determined the cause of death was a gunshot wound, Yaras said.

Police found footprints believed to have been left by Del Barrio suggesting he had been walking around the area but investigators had not determined from where he had come. Yaras said it "makes for a large scene."

Investigators learned he did not live on the block where he was found, which is located just north of Dempster Street. Morton Grove police and the North Regional Major Crime Task Force are investigating Del Barrio's death. The preliminary investigation suggests there is no ongoing danger to anyone in the area.
