Dog Found in Niles Reunited With Northwest Indiana Owner 3 Years Later
Remy, a pit bull who strayed from her home in Michigan City, Indiana in 2012 was found with puppies last month in Niles.

A pit bull found by Niles police has been reunited with her owner three years after she went missing near the Indiana-Michigan border.
An April 8 police call regarding stray animals near a gas station at Touhy and Lehigh avenues led officers to find three dogs and only one with a microchip, according to Pioneer Press.
The one they could trace, Rema, was linked to an animal hospital in Crown Point, Indiana - some 70 miles southeast of Niles. From there it was found a woman residing in Michigan City, Indiana - another 40 miles northeast of Crown Point - was the owner.

It turns out Rema had went missing in February 2012. The owner, who was not identified by Niles police, had been looking for Rema extensively at the time and “even reportedly received a false lead that she was found in, ironically, Niles, Michigan,” Pioneer Press reported.

The other dogs found in Niles (Illinois) each appeared to be a pit bull mix and possibly the offspring of Rema. The Michigan City woman also adopted one of the dog’s puppies. The other two have also been adopted.
While Rema’s three-year journey will remain a mystery, it must have been a wild ride. With more than 100 miles separating Michigan City and Niles, the possibilities are endless.
Niles police suspect the dog was found off a highway near Michigan City by someone who took care of her and dumped the dogs when they became too much to handle. All dogs were found in surprisingly good shape.
