MORTON GROVE, IL — The following information comes from the Morton Grove Police Department as a record of police activity. Readers are reminded that an arrest by the police does not constitute a finding of guilt, criminal charges — representing merely accusations by the state — are often dropped or reduced and all persons named are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

FRAUD
A Lincoln Avenue resident told police on March 12 that she called an 844 telephone number from a pop-up notification saying a computer had been infected. A man on the phone told her she needed to buy a $400 "Lifetime Care Plan" from Apple and convinced her to buy iTunes gift cards.

THEFT
A patron of a gym in the 6800 block of Dempster Street told police on March 17 that someone had stolen his wallet from inside a locker.

HOME BURGLARY
On March 19, a resident of the 9500 block of Shermer Road reported returning home to find their front door had been broken open. Police are investigating video surveillance showed a man described as 20-30 years old and white, with an average height and a thin build jogging out of the house.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident of Arcadia Street told police someone had used their Social Security Number to file a tax return.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 8300 block of Major Avenue reported returning home on March 24 and finding someone had broken into their house. The back door and the bedroom window were open, and the bedroom had been rummaged through. An estimated $20,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 5700 block of Church Street also reported returning home to find their home burglarized on March 24. A side door had been forced open, and it was not immediately known what was missing.

GARAGE BURGLARY
A resident of the 7800 block of Lake Street reported on March 28 that someone had stolen a golf bag containing various items from an unlocked car parked in a garage with the door door.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 6000 block of Carol Avenue said two people entered their attached garage through an unlocked side door and got into an unlocked car. Nothing was immediately reported missing.

THEFT
Someone stole two smaller cooling compresses from the 7600 block of Dempster Street, police were told on March 28.

HOME BURGLARY
On March 31, a resident of the 8400 block of Marmora Avenue reported discovering their south door had been damaged and the west side door was damaged and left open. Nothing was immediately reported missing.

HOME BURGLARY
A resident of the 9300 block of Marion Avenue reported on March 31 that someone had broken into their house and stolen $400 in jewelry.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 5900 block of Lincoln Avenue reported on April 3 that someone had vandalized their garage back door with yellow paint.

ARRESTS

A 36-year-old Chicago woman was arrested on March 16 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop for an unspecified violation near the intersection of Dempster Street and Parkside Road.

A 33-year-old Chicago woman was arrested on March 24 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop for speeding in the 5800 block of Dempster Street.

Mamdouh Amin, 54, of the 6200 block of Troy Street in Chicago, was arrested on March 24 at the Menard's in the 6300 block of Oakton Street, and charged with retail theft. He was accused of switching the tags on products in order to pay a lower price.

Elvir Melkic, 23, of the 2700 block of Glenlake Avenue in Chicago, was arrested on March 26 in the 5900 block of Dempster Street and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, misdemeanor excessive speeding and driving while license suspended after he was pulled over for driving 61 mph in a 30 mph zone and was found to have an expandable baton.

Nicholas J. Lekas, 57, of the 3200 block of Lake Avenue in Glenview, was arrested March 27 and charged with driving under the influence after police witnessed him parked at a gas station in the 5600 block of Dempster Street smoking a pipe. The officer noticed the smell of marijuana and alcohol coming from the driver, who refused sobriety tests and was taken into custody.

Samir Marogail, 27, of the 9200 block of Churchill Circle in Niles, was arrested March 27 in the 5900 block of Dempster Street on a warrant for violating an order of protection numerous times.

A 29-year-old Chicago man was arrested on March 27 and charged with driving with a suspended license near the intersection of Waukegan Road and Churchill Street after he was pulled over for an unspecified traffic offense.

A 20-year-old Glenview man was arrested on March 28 following a traffic stop in the 7700 block of Dempster Street and charged with misdemeanor excessive speeding for driving 72 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Thorsten P. Williamson, 31, of the 4300 block of Wesley Terrace in Schiller Park, was arrested on March 29 in the 7100 block of Dempster Street and charged with driving under the influence after he was pulled over for an unspecified traffic offense.

Breanna L. Wietlispach, 32, of the 8300 block of Oleander Avenue in Niles, was arrested on March 30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following an investigation into a three-car traffic crash at the intersection of Golf and Waukegan roads.

A 63-year-old River Grove woman was arrested for driving with a suspended license on March 30 following a traffic stop in the 8800 block of Waukegan Road for an unspecified violation.

John D. Lykins, 18, of the 900 block of Church Street in Glenview, was arrested on March 31 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and misdemeanor speeding — driving 69 mph in a 30 mph zone – following a traffic stop near the intersection of Menard Street and Dempster Avenue.

Fernando Heredia, 27, of the 500 block of Custer Avenue in Evanston, turned himself in at the Morton Grove Police Department on March 31 on warrant for a previous shoplifting offense.
