Author of “The Wicked Mississippi” at the Niles Public Library

Chicago essayist and award-winning journalist Lee Sandlin discusses his recent, highly praised book, Wicked River: the Mississippi When It Last Ran Wild.

Mr. Sandlin’s rollicking and riveting account reveals the wild, lawless history of the Father of Waters before Mark Twain’s treatments and culminates in the 1863 Siege of Vicksburg during the Civil War.

The Chicago Tribune reviewed Wicked River as “the best kind of history, a vivid torrent of facts and passions, an inspired agitation of water and words” while Garrison Keilor felt plunged as a reader “into a rich, dark stretch of visceral history.”
