Dick Haymes began his radio career in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas and worked at various Country stations on the West Coast where he was credited with ushering in the "Town and Country" era. Dick passed away on November 24, 1980. He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and as a renowned radio entertainer, he is fondly remembered by his listeners for his many imaginary "sidekicks," Gumdrop Gus, Wilhelmina Meadow, Sir Chester Drawers and L.A. Smog.
